Kanmani

“Kanmani” is a special Braille system designed for Malayalam, created by Sishna Anand and her father, Anand Krishnan, and developed by Zendalona. Sishna, who faces both visual and hearing challenges, embarked on this project to create a more accessible Braille system.

Kanmani is a system designed for deaf-blind people to read and write in Malayalam. Currently, it includes a table for this purpose within the software called Sharada-Braille-Writter(SBW). Malayalam is typed in English and then translated into Malayalam. Deafblind individuals use a device called a ‘Braille display’ to read. Kanmani is not enabled for current users of SBW, and they should contact Zendalona to enable it. Kanmani will soon be available on Android as separate software, but a significant donation is expected.
