Tux Math

Tux math is an educational game which help the students to improve their mathematical skills. To open Tux Math you can navigate to the application menu, then go to education and click on Tux Math Alternatively, you can search for Tux Math in the dashboard and launch it from there. It is also be opened through terminal.

How to paly?

The basic goal of the game is to save the penguin’s igloos from the falling comet. Here, the falling comet contains the mathematical problems. We can stop the comet from falling on a penguin’s igloos by giving the correct solution to the mathematical problems. After giving the correct answer, press Enter to stop or kill the comet. If an igloo gets hit by a comet, it starts to melt. But don’t worry about that, the penguins are safe. When the comet touches the penguin’s igloo two times, the entire igloo will melt, and the penguin will leave. Here we can see the correct answer on the screen, when the comet touches the penguin’s igloo. There is a vacant space on the screen that may either left or right. we can fill the space with a new igloo and a penguin by stopping the bonus comets. The bonus comets can be identified in red colour. The surprise element in the game is a fast-moving power up comet. If we can stop the comet that will give us a special secret weapon. That really helps to the game. In this game every comet contains one mathematical problem or maths related questions.

When the Application opens, the main menu contains “Play Alone”, “Network Game”, “Play With Friends”, “Factoroids” and “Help”.

Play Alone

This feature allows you to play as a single player. Which contains five options in their page that is “Math Command Training Academy”, “Math Command Fleet Missions”, “Play Arcade Game”, “Play Custom Game” and “Main Menu”.

Math Command Training Academy: This feature helps to explore the concept of Maths. Starting with simple typing of single digit numbers, and progressing to multiplication and division involving negatives and “missing number” questions (e.g. “-17 x ? = 119”). The player wins if the question list is completed successfully. Successfully completed lessons are indicated with a flashing gold star. Which is also helping to improve the mathematical skill.

Math Command Fleet Missions: As the name suggests, each round is given as a mission.

Play Arcade Game: In this feature six option are available. It is starting from “Space Cadet” is this is the easiest phase of the game, “Scout” is the easy phase, “Ranger” is the moderate phase, “Ace” is Hard phase and “Commando” is the Hardest phase of the game.

Space Cadet – simple addition and numbering concept

Scout – addition and subtraction.

Ranger – addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division

Ace – All four operations with operands, including negative numbers and “missing number” type questions.

Commando – All above plus multiple operands in one expression

 e.g. -3 x ? + 14 = 2

At the rightmost corner of the page can we see a left and right arrows. By using the right arrow, we can see the extension of the Play Arcade Game page. Which include the Commando, Hall of Fame and Main Menu. Hall Of Fame gives the first top ten scores of all phases of the game.

 Network Game

This feature allows you to play the game with your friends by using a local network.

Players see the same questions, and whoever answers first gets the points for that question. The game play is cooperative, however, in that all participating players help defend all the igloos.

To set up network play, the Tux Math server program needs to be started. Simply go to Network Game->Run Server and follow the directions. You just need to type in a name to identify the server to players (such as “Tux Server”).  If we can use threads on your platform, you will also be prompted to pick the lesson file to be used by the server. Once the server is running, players can connect by going to Network Game->Join Game.  Tux Math should automatically detect the server if it is running on the local network.  The player will be asked to enter a name, then click an arrow to indicate that ready to start.  A list of currently connected players is displayed during this process. When all players have indicated that they are ready, the game will start.

 Play With Friends

This allows you to play the game with your friends on a single computer by giving them turns. If we press this option, its shows the next page which include Score sweep, Eliminator and Main Menu. Score sweep is a type of game play which redirected a new page which contains Space Cadet, Scout, Ranger, Ace, Commando and Main Menu. If we select any one of the levels will ask some questions like, “How many kids are playing?” There is a hint given to you that you must select the players numbers between two and four players. Then arrange the order of the turns. That means this is determines who play first and second. For that the next question is “Who’s playing first?” Who want to play first enter the name on the provided space. We can fill in the name according to our desired order, up to the maximum allowed players. Completing this the very next question is “How many rounds will you play?” Enter the desired number of rounds on the screen. Then the game begins with the turn given to the first player. And the turns are changed into the next players like they preferred. Also, a message will appear on the screen who’s turs that. We can continue the game until the game get a winner. In this score sweep phase the winner is determined by who carry highest score in the game.

The Eliminator phase is also like score sweep, only one difference is there is no option to ask how many rounds you want to play. Also, it eliminates one player in every round who got the least score in that round. The final existing player declared as the winner of the game. That will show on the screen.

Fcatoroids

The primary aim of the game is to identify the factors of a number. Here an asteroid contains comparatively a large number we must factorise the number according to the objective appear on the screen. Here a hint also provided. That help to study about the factors of a number. In this game we have to factorise the large number by using a gun, if the gun shot hit the asteroid it breaks into several parts that parts contain its factors. We must try to shoot the rocks until they are destroyed. Up arrow and right arrow used to move the gun.
