Introduction

Tux Typing is an educational typing game. This game allows the student to play with words. The game helps to improve the typing skills of the user. This game has two versions. One of them is to be played with braille keys. The other one is similar to the original version. It provided sound throughout the game. It’s not just a game. We can also use it as a learning tool.

 How to play??

In this game falling fish or falling comet contain some words. We have to identify the word and we have to enter that word as faster, then the word will disappear from the fish or comet. The primary aim of the game is to remove the word from their space. The game help to improve our texting skills and help to familiarise the falling words.

The first page of the game includes “Fish Cascade”, “Comet Zap”,” Training”,” Options”,” Project Info” and “Quit”. In this “Fish Cascade”, “Comet Zap” are the main gaming pages.

 Fish Cascade

In this phase of the game, contain the fish with words. Here we have to help the Tux eat the fish by pressing the letters on the fish. It has different game levels such as Easy, Medium, and Hard. Select any one of the levels it redirects to the next page. That page contains a different category of words. From there, select any of them, and then we only have to start the game. Words will appear on the screen only based on the selected category. If we completely text the word, then the word will disappear from the fish. Otherwise, that will stay on the fish. The tux can’t eat a fish if the fish contains a word. On the right corner of the screen, we can see how many fish we want to eat and how many lives we have. On the left corner of the screen, we can see the current round.

 Comet Zap

In this phase, the comet possesses the word. Each and every comet has at least one letter of the word. Here, we try to defend the cities from the comet by typing the letters on them using a laser. We can see eight cities on the screen; if the comet touches the city, it starts to destroy it. The cities are destroyed only after the comet touches them twice. As we type each letter of the given word, the typed letters are destroyed along with the comet by using a laser.

It has different game levels such as Easy, Moderate, Hard and Hardest. Named like “Space Cadet”, “Pilot”, “Ace”, “Commander”. The other procedures are same as that of the “Fish Cascade”.

 Training

Training will help the students improve their typing skills. This feature allows the students to learn how to type. This feature includes two training sessions: the first one is “Basic Lessons,” and the second is “Phrase Typing

Lessons use XML-based scripting to run various tutorials on individual letters on the keyboard. The program will display a combination of the chosen letter and then show you which fingers you should use to type the combination. The software will measure the accuracy and typing speed for each lesson.

The phrase typing section is very similar to lessons but involves typing phrases or complete sentences, with the aim to improve typing speed and accuracy each time. Every time a mistake is made, a sound to highlight the error to the user.

 Options

Which include the Word list editor, language settings, and braille key settings. In language setup, we can choose the desired language. English is set as the default language. Word editors allow you to add a word list in this game. So, first click “Edit Word List,” then select ‘New’. There was a new page that asked you to enter the name of the new word list. The press ‘ok’. The next step is to add more words to that list. For that, select the given name from the page, then press ‘Enter’ and start to enter the desired words in that list. After every word, just press the enter key, and only then will it go to the next line. Then, if we want to remove the word list, select the desired word list, press ‘Remove’, then press ‘OK’, and it will be removed from the wordlist. If you want to edit the wordlist, select the word list from the page and click “Enter.” You will enter that list as usual. You can edit or remove any word from there. To exit from the page use “Esc” key.

 Tux Typing with Speech

Like the name says, it supports speech throughout the game. If you look into the game, the falling words are indicated with a voice according to their falling order. It repeats the word, and along with that, it also announces the letters in that word. This is the advantage of Tux Typing with Speech. The other features are the same as those of the Tux Typing.

 Tux Typing Braille

This version of Tux Typing is based on braille keys. The words in the game are typed by using the braille keys. Here, the f, d, s, j, k, and l keys are used to type the words. In the training session, typing is practiced using six keys in braille. If we are familiar with those keys, the game is quite easy; otherwise, it is difficult to handle the game. In this game, we can see the screen reader support throughout the game. It read the word and the letters one by one in it. It is also similar to ‘Tux Type’ except for the mentioned features.Â
